FRESHMEN: 2023-24 Academic Year
2022-23 Academic Year
A twisted tangle of branches is slowly being washed away to sea. When I see the waves flowing on the shore, it feels like I am connected to the ocean. The taste of the salty sea water calls me as it flows peacefully over the sand. The fish that swim gracefully in the depths of the sea seem as if the taste of them (breaded and peppered) is already in my mouth. As I feel the soft sand on my feet and the ocean breeze go over me, it feels as if my feet are melting into the sand. I can hear the waves flowing on the seashore and the dolphins in the water as the squealing seagulls fly around them. The salty air from the ancient white oaks calls me to the beach, and I can smell the rotted roots from the white oaks that fall into the waves on the boneyard beach in South Carolina.

The waves escape back into the ocean, running away from their problems like small children. White oaks lay wherever they fell like a giant hammer crashed into them. The saltiness of the sea blows around with the smell so strong you can taste the salt. The tangy smell of the school of fish makes me think of cajun boils and parties on a patio. Rubbery sand beneath my feet feels as if I am walking on a giant ball. Cold water hits my feet with a start. The waves of the ocean crash into the sand with all its might. Cracking wood of the white oaks sounds as if someone landed on its arm and broke it. Salt from the ocean’s scent is so strong I can taste the salt in my mouth. The rotting of the white oaks smells pleasing and sickening at the same time. - Alora

Huge waves crash against the rotting old white oak. Saltiness that lingers in the humid air plays with my taste buds and the fish is divine. The sand under my feet is like marble and the coldness soothes my hot skin. Waves roll from the ocean's depths, hammering against the sand, while pelicans are squealing with joy. Salty water has the most fantastic fragrance like the air above, and the fish has a fantastic aroma beckoning to be eaten. - Koda
The white oak has rotted to the point of its fall as if the sand is eating it up. Dogfish and the shrimp that we ate up on the dock with the tartar sauce sit well in my stomach. The bumps of the shell are smooth and sharp in some places, threatening to cut the bottom of my feet. Waves and seagulls call out at me. The waters calm my nose from all the other scents. - Ethan |
Waves lap against the shore as the dreary sky combats its subtle looks. Dolphins play in the bay with their fellow pod members. Overwhelming musk of the ocean fills the air with the smell of monkfish. Great white oaks stand custodian over the beach. The lapping of the sea fills the afternoon, soon to be overtaken by the explosive power of thunder. Sweet caramel espresso tingles my taste buds like when the dentist cleans your teeth. Fishy and salty scents from the ocean take the sweet taste of caramel away. -Juakin
The creepy but peaceful place I am in is like a graveyard with all the fallen trees. Water is trying to root up the tree in front of me like chopping a tree down with an ax. Water has a salty bitter taste as the wind blows a mist onto my face. Clamshells in my hand have a soft but rough feel, and the sand under my feet feels like marble with a little soft film on top of it.The waves crash against the shore and make a splashing noise. The air smells like salt water and a seafood restaurant. - Hunter |
Various clam shells and sea shells are spread along the empty beach as the ocean waves fall over the decaying trees. The view of the fallen white oaks is like a tree graveyard. The taste of ocean water is salty, and the smell of the fish in the ocean is so strong that I could taste it. Marbly sand is on my hands as I pick up the rough and colorful sea shells. Loud seagulls and pelicans fly above my head as the sound of waves run up the beach. I can smell the old trees that fell into the ocean mixed with salty ocean water. - Charlie

2021-22 Academic YearThe gods of Olympus |
Unit: Greek Mythology
How did the Greeks use the gods as a way to explain the unexplainable? How did these gods interact, and how did their actions affect the lives of men? Students will read The Lightning Thief by Rick Roirdan and supplement with readings of the original Greek myths to immerse themselves in ancient Greek culture. Each student will also select and study a Greek god, and ultimately deliver a first-person perspective speech about his or her god during a Greek Living Museum scheduled for Liberty's Literacy Night: March 31. |
Video features the sixth grade language arts students.
