7th Grade: 2023-24 Academic Year
|
The seventh grade read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and answered the essential question: What can cause a sudden change in someone's life.
During this unit, they analyzed character development of Pony Boy Curtis and his fellow greasers. To the left, you can check out the Youtube video of "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost, which introduces the theme of The Outsiders: Stay Gold. |

Writing Unit
The students have been working on the five purposes of writing. They were each given an object (out of my desk drawer) and they had to write (1) and informative essay about that item, and (2) create an advertisement persuading an audience to buy that item. Next we will work on the purpose of entertaining - which will be a Shakespearean Sonnet highlighting their object. Stay tuned for more!

Don't turn your back on dreams,
Regret comes when dreams die. Emptiness fills your life, A terrifying world appears. Many people look just as hopeless as you. Some may come and say, "hello!" but are really your nightmares. -Logan |
Dreams are parts of life,
Reach for your dreams. Everyone has dreams, A lot of people achieve their dreams. Most animals have dreams. Some don't have dreams. -Carter |
Dreams are very important, don't let them go.
Reaching for your dreams is better than not doing it at all. Every dream you have, hold on to them; don't let them go. Always cherish your dreams. Maybe one day your dreams will come true. So just keep holding on to your dreams. -Serenity Dreams are like chocolate- you can't stop having them.
Rain is like dreams - there are many. Everyone has dreams. A dream could be as small as a mouse or as high as an elephant. Maybe they get destroyed like a hammer to a brick. Snakes are like dreams; they can slither away from you. -Travis |
Dreams are like gazing at the stars,
Reaching for your dreams are earning them. Every day, some dreams come true. A dream that will almost fill your head. Many people's dreams come true, Some don't because you let go. -Harley Dreams can be destroyed, so don't let go.
Ready? Are you ready to dream? Everyone has dreams, so don't lose them. All people have bad dreams, and some good dreams. Many people still fear to lose dreams. Still, I live with no dreams. So can you. -Kilah |
Dreams are like Reese's,
Really important to the soul. Equally as sad when gone, And just as delicious. Mostly Reese's are the best, Some dreams are bad, but good dreams are like Reese's. -Morgan Don't turn back or stop.
Reconnect with your dreams. Every good dream comes to a good day. A dream can be good or bad. My mom helps me when I get nightmares, School gives me bad dreams. - Pason |

2020-21 Academic Year
Mrs. Drullinger's fourth and fifth graders learned the art of the great debate. Students used their knowledge of opinion/argumentative writing to form debates with partners, focusing on the three main points of persuasion to talk their audience into the validity of their argument. For added fun, they also created mini commercials during the persuasive unit.
